SCAM ALERT – GERMAN CAR RENTAL companies conspire to fleece customers

I am deadly serious. The least you can reasonably demand to get for the prices advertised on Car Hire Companies’ Web Sites, without paying for *any* optional extras, is a car that is in full conformance with ALL legal requirements of the law. It is MANDATORY in Germany to have Winter Tyres on cars during the winter months. ALL Car Rental companies I have found so far are advertising their prices exclusive of Winter Tyres, which are then listed as “optional extras”. Something that is mandatory, something that you can be fined for not having on the car you drive, is NOT an “optional extra”. It should be included in the price. If anybody knows of an HONEST car rental company in the vicinity of Düsseldorf Airport, that will NOT try and pull a fast one by quoting a price that doesn’t include everything that is required, let me know. I’ll even post another video praising you for your honest way of doing business. See it as “free advertising”. This is absolutely despicable.

@tyrongkojy Car rental companies. They’re all scumbags. The big famous ones like Hertz and Avis worst of all.

  2. rozeboosje says:

@Mithcoriel I’ll be going to Holland but I’m flying in and out of Düsseldorf. The most annoying thing is that all of this is merely to get me from and to the border…

  3. Mithcoriel says:

Oh, you’re in germany? Where and why? (Just curious)

  4. lazyperfectionist1 says:

@rozeboosje Don’t you mean, “syde of the pond?”

  5. rozeboosje says:

@KevinSolway It is right now, yes

  6. KevinSolway says:

It’s only mandatory if it’s icy conditions . . . which it is, apparently.

  7. hobbitsarecool says:

    @rozeboosje
Hoop ik ook. Kan ik weer fatsoenlijk fietsen.

  8. rozeboosje says:

@hobbitsarecool Hopelijk zet de dooi dan snel in. Heb nog 10 dagen XD

  9. rozeboosje says:

    @dangerouslytalented Yeah…. but see above

  10. rozeboosje says:

  13. dangerouslytalented says:

    trains don’t need snow tires…

  14. hobbitsarecool says:

Geloof me, je hebt winterbanden nodig in Nederland gezien hoe goed ze hier de wegen vegen. Ik ben vandaag met de fiets gevallen gezien het te moeilijk is om alle wegen gangbaar te maken.

  15. rozeboosje says:

@bagelboi66 The tragic thing is: I’m actually going to Holland. I’m only flying in and out of Düsseldorf because it’s cheaper. Those shaggin’ snow tyres aren’t even mandatory in Holland, so it’s literally only because we need to get from and to the German border that we need the bloody things. Oh the [sob] humanity.

  16. rozeboosje says:

@lazyperfectionist1 “tyre” is how they spell it on this side of the pond :-) – though you do see it spelled your way too.

  17. rozeboosje says:

@TruthSurge Yup. Everytime some rule like this gets enforced, someone ends up getting fleeced.

  18. bagelboi66 says:

First have a nice vacation or whatever you’re doing in Germany.

I have never rented a car in Europe but should you ever need to rent one in N. America I have never had a poor experience with Alamo/National Car Rental.

As for the snow tires, at least they’re mandated in winter there. I believe it is only Quebec and possibly New Brunswick here in Canada that mandate suitable winter tires in the snow months. If anyone needs snow tires in winter, it’s most Canadians.

  19. lazyperfectionist1 says:

Is that how “tire” is spelled in Ireland? Are you sure it isn’t Yreland?

  20. TruthSurge says:

Anytime something is MANDATORY, you know it’s all about $.

  21. commanderkruge says:

@RyuDarragh Ahw, DAMN! :D I bet they just made it up to tease you, though. ;)

  22. rozeboosje says:

@kirafan68 LOL – thanks for the gesture all the same.

  23. rozeboosje says:

@Larvemannenz001 I would say the problem isn’t so much Germany, but the greed of the car rental companies and their total lack of scruples.

  24. RyuDarragh says:

@commanderkruge: Last time I passed out drunk was at a frat party.Game of “spin the bottle” where the winner could have as many girls as he could carry upstairs in one go. I was told all about it the next day. 3 girls. And the three said I was an animal. Problem was, I didn’t remember any of it from when the game started to when I apparently passed out after servicing those 3 girls. I Vowed to never get drunk like that again if my body was gonna go off & have fun like that & not take me along :P

  25. commanderkruge says:

@RyuDarragh That’s why I wrote “scam” and not scam. Of course it’s not legally a scam, but it’s one of those sneaky little things that many companies (small and large) do from time to time to get that little extra money from you. It leaves you with that certain soapish-bitter aftertaste in your mouth and a sore bumhole, just like last time when you passed out drunk in a bar and none of the guys you were with afterwards wanted to tell you what had happened…
